Confessions of a Creative Quitter

​Yesterday, I decided to look into the Inktober challenge and give it a go..... I completed the first day and today's Inktober prompt is "Relic" and WOW did it call me out.

Because you know what I have a whole collection of? Unfinished challenges!! Half-filled sketchbooks, abandoned 30-day whatevers, big beautiful plans that made it to like... day 7. They're basically relics at this point. Somebody call a museum lol.

It's not that I don't WANT to follow through. I really do! I want to be the artist who shows up every single day and does the thing! But then around day 6 my inner critic rolls up like "ummm this one's not good enough, you're already behind, why are you even trying" and honestly?? She's very convincing. Rude, but convincing.

So here's my new plan for this October: I'm not chasing perfect.

I'm chasing PRESENT.

​Fun fact — Inktober literally says you don't have to do all 31 days! There's the half-marathon pace, there's the weekly pace, the only rule is just... keep showing up in whatever way you chose.

My commitment isn't 31 flawless drawings. It's posting the messy ones too. It's coming back the day AFTER I miss a day instead of dramatically quitting forever lol. Discipline isn't never falling off — it's climbing back on.

So if you're a creative who starts things and doesn't finish them... hi, hello, welcome, pull up a chair. Let's leave those old patterns in the relic museum where they belong and make something new together.
